The Oyo State Government will ensure integrity of the selection process and prevent any form of compromise in choosing a new Alaafin.
Commissioner for local government Mr Segun Olayiwola assured when the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation in the state, Mr Dotun Oyelade visited him in his office.
Oyelade in a statement quoted Olayiwola, as saying that government was committed to the age-long tradition of the selection process in filling the vacant Alaafin of Oyo stool.
Olayiwola disclosed that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration had enthroned about 60 imperial majesties, royal majesties, royal highnesses, and Baales, in adherence to due process, and the selection of the Alaafin would follow same due process.
On Local Government autonomy, the commissioner posited that it can only be practicable if the federal government takes up financial responsibilities for public primary schools and medical institutions.
This he said would relieve the financial burden of the state government.
He argued that the salaries and allowances of teachers and local government employees alone in the state amount to over N5 billion monthly.
