NSIB investigates plane that overshot runway

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) says it has commenced investigation into the serious incident involving the Embraer ERJI45 aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines.

In a statement reportedly issued by NSIB Spokesperson, Tunji Oketumbi, all 51 passengers and four crew members were successfully evacuated.

NSIB solicited information from the general public in the form of pictures, video or recording that will assist them in conducting a comprehensive investigation.

So far, the cause of the incident apart from the wet runway remained unknown while passengers have been evacuated as of the time of filing this report.

The incident happened at about 07:35 pm hours during the heavy downpour

Rescue operations began immediately with the arrival of officials from the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS) of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other relevant agencies.
