Flood submerges Lagos Command bridge

The Command bridge in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos was on Tuesday submerged by the early morning rain that caused floods on major roads.

The State Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Authority, Ibrahim Farinloye, in a statement issued Tuesday morning, advised the people to use alternative routes to their respective destinations due to the early morning rain.

The downpour which started around 2 am and 5 am in some areas and spread across the state lasted till a few minutes before 10 am on Tuesday.

Farinloye also noted that joint teams from NEMA, the Fire Service, and the Police are actively engaged in rescuing trapped individuals from the affected area.

“The residents of Command Area are urged to take alternative routes by avoiding Command and the near areas as flood have overran the bridge.

“NEMA, Fire Service and Police are working to get trapped people out of the area presently.”

Last year, one person was feared killed as a flood wreaked havoc at Gate House, Gold Crescent, Lagos State Development and Property Corporation Bungalow Scheme, Oke Afa, Isolo, Lagos.

The residents expressed fear over flooding that continually threatened the safety of lives and property within the estate.

Some of the residents, who spoke in separate interviews with our correspondent, said the flood was further worsened after the downpour on Tuesday.
