Eno puts smile on pensioners’ faces, releases additional N1.4bn for gratuities – CPS

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Ekerete Udoh has given hope to pensioners in the state as he authorised the immediate release of additional N1.4bn for the payment of their gratuities.


The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Ekerete Udoh disclosed in a statement.

Udoh noted that by the gesture the governor was trying to cushion the impacts of the current economic situation in the country on the retirees.

According to him the sum of Nine hundred million Naira (N900 million) is for payment of retired State Civil servants and five hundred million Naira (N500million) is for retired primary school teachers.

He disclosed that the N1.4 billion has brought the total amount of gratuities paid so far by Governor Eno since assumption of office to 16.1 billion Naira.

His words, “In fulfilment of his campaign promise, His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, has authorized the immediate release of 1.4billion Naira for further payment of gratuities.

“The breakdown of the payment is as follows: 900 million Naira for retired State Civil servants and 500million Naira for retired primary school teachers.

“The release of the additional 1.4 billion Naira brings the total amount of gratuities paid so far by the Governor, ten months after his inauguration to 16.1 billion Naira.

“Even though it is an acknowledged fact that gratuities are entitlements, but the courage to consistently release funds for the payment, further demonstrates the people- centric approach to governance by His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno.”
